Facebook Will Be Banned In Pakistan From 6th October 2011

Facebook though is the best social networking site in the world is going to be banned in Pakistan. This judgement is passed by the Lahore high court Justice Azmat Saeed.

He ordered to Block all other social networking sites which are of America and especially Facebook. However judge made it clear that no search engine including Google will be blocked.

This action is taken because religious discrimination content was being published on Facebook . According to the news published on Pakistan today, there was a petition demanding the ban on Facebook for holding notorious competition based on blasphemous caricatures on May 20, 2011.

The court has ordered the government to disable Facebook or ban Facebook and deliver a compliance report by October 6, 2011.

We should all consider this step to be taken in the right direction because social networking sites should not support religious discrimination. A Similar event took place an year back with consequences that followed to temporarily restrict access to Facebook in Pakistan.

Either the mistake is somehow repeated or intentionally done because Facebook Platform Policies clearly state:

You will not post content that: is hateful, threatening, or pornographic; incites violence; or contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence.

We can say that Facebook administrators might not have seen this for the first time but no they should take a step against it. Everyone knows that Facebook administrators have complete access to remove any racial discrimination content posted on the Facebook. Here are the terms and condition of Facebook

  • You will not use Facebook to do anything unlawful, misleading, malicious, or discriminatory.
  • We respect other people’s rights, and expect you to do the same.
  • You will not post content or take any action on Facebook that infringes or violates someone else’s rights or otherwise violates the law.
  • We can remove any content or information you post on Facebook if we believe that it violates this Statement.

If Facebook will not remove the content soon then this would lead to questions in mind that whether Facebook is supporting humiliation of a certain religion???

Facebook should not allow users to make it a platform to support and promote religious violence.
